For the past ten years, Liz Picot-Hirsh has been helping students gain admission into their top choice schools by helping them tell their stories through compelling, creative application essays. Based on extensive research and insight from admissions officers at top schools, Liz teaches students how to write essays that capture the hearts and attention of admissions officers.

 

A self-proclaimed grammar geek, Liz Picot-Hirsh, founder of Ultimate Essay, has a BA from the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. She later went on to get a MBA in Marketing from NYU’s Stern School of Business.  Liz worked for 10 years at direct mail marketing companies, such as Citibank and Reader’s Digest, where she created sales materials that effectively communicated and sold products to  mass audiences.  Her strong background in writing began at a small private, college-prep school in Forest Hills, NY that emphasized writing and grammar by having students write and edit essays daily using a feather-tipped pen dipped in ink.

 

As schools today often do not spend a lot of time teaching grammar and writing, Liz found that students often graduate high school without knowing the fundamental rules of writing and grammar. While writing comes naturally to some students, others need a little more instruction.  Liz founded Ultimate Essay to teach students how to become better, more confident writers. And, with the college and grad school application process becoming so competitive, she found an even greater need to help students learn how to tell their stories in a way that will help them get into their top choice schools. This kind of personal narrative writing is not taught or practiced in high school English classes. Based on extensive research into the factors admission officers look for in the application essay, Liz helps students find their voice and write meaningful, passionate application essays that impress college admissions officers.
